30th Anniversary Campaign

Help us purchase and preserve 10 acres adjacent to our campus on Great Wass Island

Downeast Institute has an unexpected and unique opportunity to purchase 10 acres of land that will help us strengthen marine research capacity in the environmentally important and underserved eastern Maine region.

Purchasing the land, which comes with five existing waterfront cottages, will:

increase available accommodations for students and visiting researchers,
create affordable housing for employees,
preserve existing uses of the waterfront; and
add a valuable intertidal habitat to our campus for studying commercially important shellfish.

This effort aligns with our new Strategic Plan for 2023-2026.
